Twin Town Challenge – On the 23rd of May a team of four from Ion Science and Shawcity will be taking on the three-day Twin Town Challenge, an annual European extreme motoring challenge organised by UK charity Specialeffect. Special Effect is dedicated to using technology to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities.
The journey will take in the race circuits of Brands Hatch UK, as well as Le Mans and Croix En Ternois in France and includes a series of crazy challenges, including competitors’ best fancy dress, the most competent at various driving challenges on the way, and best-decorated vehicle.
The team will be driving a Jaguar XJ6 from Witney, Oxfordshire UK to Le Touquet, France. Taking on the challenge, our team comprises Duncan Johns and Dawn Harris from Ion Science with Neil O’Regan and Colin Smith from our UK distributors, Shawcity.
Duncan Johns, Ion Science MD commented, “We are supporting the event as the charity works with many different people with a wide variety of disabilities, including those who have suffered strokes, those disabled by road traffic accidents, injured soldiers returning from service and many others with life-limiting conditions.
“Whatever the situation, Specialeffect aims to allow people to enjoy video games and other leisure technologies. This not only helps put the fun back into their lives but also helps them feel a sense of inclusion by helping them to play video games with family and friends.” Duncan continued.
But it’s not just about fun. By giving disabled people the means to participate; these video games played on specialist devices, are kick-starting rehabilitation and self-esteem by helping level the playing field, bringing families and friends together and having a profoundly positive impact on therapy, confidence and rehabilitation.
We wish them luck and just hope that at £500, the old Jaguar keeps going!
