Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

Inadequate indoor ventilation is now being combatted by intelligent heating ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC).

HVAC systems are now being developed and integrated in a standard way to establish a balance between adequate ventilation to prevent sickness, and also energy efficiency.

Building management systems are one solution to address the balance, whereby widely distributed sensors that, for example, monitor temperature, humidity and VOCs can be used to optimise HVAC performance but minimise energy use.

As sensor technology and networking platforms improve and we are developing ‘smarter’ buildings and eventually cities, publically displaying our green credentials is becoming a must for organisations in our new environmentally-aware society.

Due to their ability to provide reliable low-level detection over a range of environmental conditions, Photoionisation detectors have been successfully employed in the built environment to monitor VOCs. Data from these sensors is used to modify traffic flows and inform industry to modify processes and control indoor air quality to reduce VOC exposure.

ION Science Falco

Falco & Falco TAC diffused has an externally located Intrinsically Safe sensor for quick and easy servicing without the need for a hot work permit. Dual certification allows Falco to be serviced and calibrated in a hazardous environment without having to remove power!

The standard Falco is supplied with a 10.6 eV lamp allowing the instrument to detect a wide range of VOC gases. The fixed gas detector has 4 detection ranges available, these ranges include 0 – 10 ppm, 0 – 50 ppm, 0 – 1000 ppm and 0 – 3000 ppm.

The Falco TAC utilises a 10.0 eV lamp to detect Total Aromatic Compounds (TACs) which help focus on benzene. The Falco TAC is available with a detection range of 0 – 50 ppm.
